UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA LEADING THE WAY ON CLIMATE ACTION

The University of Victoria (UVic) ranks third in Canada and ninth worldwide among universities for its overall score on responding to the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. According to the 2023 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, UVic also takes the top spot for climate action – an area identified as requiring urgent action by the UN. The university placed fourth in the sustainable cities and communities’ category, which measures institutions’ research on sustainability, their role as custodians of arts and heritage, and their internal approaches to sustainability.

The rankings are based on a university’s research, stewardship, outreach and teaching activities. The overall ranking includes 1,591 universities from 112 countries/regions. UVic received high scores for its performance in research and teaching activities, and its interdisciplinary climate-specific programs and degrees, such as the recently announced undergraduate climate science degree.
